Fred Smith Sr. is a longtime Athens community leader, public servant, and advocate for education and opportunity. For more than four decades, he has worked to strengthen communities, support families, and expand opportunities for young people.

A retired district director with the Georgia Department of Labor, Smith now serves as executive director of the East Athens Development Corporation, where he leads programs focused on youth literacy, workforce development, and community uplift.

He is running for the Clarke County Board of Education to support students, strengthen schools, and serve the community he has spent a lifetime helping to build.
